Rotting Corpse was formed in July 1985 by guitarists Walt Trachsler and John Perez. Jim “Moe” Mulqueen as their vocalist. Dave Gryder was the band’s drummer. The name Rotting Corpse was chosen when no other thrash bands existed in the Dallas-Arlington-Ft. Worth, Texas. During the spring of 1986, Rotting Corpse entered Pantego Sound Studio and recorded a 3-track demo with Jerry Abbott at the board. The tape sold extremely well.  Steve Murphy was asked to join in 1987. In mid 1987 Walt became the vocalist, and Louie Carrisalez became the band’s drummer. Walt, Steve, and Louie recorded a 4-song demo "Fuck it; it's only Thrash". This demo was also recorded at Pantego Sound with Vinnie Paul at the board. 1990, Walt asked Steve and Dave Gryder to record another demo. This line-up, along with Scott Shelby on lead guitar, recorded new songs.
